September has been a busy and productive month. Third cutting alfalfa has been safely tucked into the barn. One of the best ever crops of 3rd cutting with a score of 25.6 for crude protein,  a 238 RFV and a TDN of 74.2. Those goats, sheep and picky eaters will love this!

Churchill Lady

We also added two more Polled Hereford females to the herd. The first is a weanling heifer calf from Churchill Cattle Company in Manhattan, Montana. We attended their September 15 World Class Female Sale and purchased Churchill Lady 7313E ET. Her sire is R Leader 6964. We expect great things from this little lady and look forward to watching her grow into a productive, efficient cow with wonderful maternal traits.

E T719 Precious

We also attended the Mohican West sale with guest consignors Ehlke Herefords of Townsend, Montana and McMurray Cattle. This September 28 sale is where we made the decision to purchase E T719 Precious Z35 from Ehlke Herefords. She is a beautiful dark colored cow with thickness and great body balance. Her heifer calf was a real looker and will stay in the Ehlke herd as a replacement. Precious will definitely add style and stunning looks to our herd. We are excited to add her outcross pedigree to our herd.

We continue to complete the fall chores and notice the weather cooling and the temperature dropping. One of the wonderful things about where we live is having the opportunity to experience four seasons, but they sure do come and go quickly! September will be at an end before we know it, so on with the work and getting prepared for winter.
