The morning started early with changing irrigation water and moving into working cattle. All the calves, bred heifers, and mature cows were weighed and fly powdered as they made their way down the alleyway chute and headgate. The calves were given a Pink Eye booster and the bull calves were moved into the weaning pen. Many of the cows had a blood sample taken for a pregnancy test that will be sent off first thing in the morning.
Several of the older herd matrons already know what happened to their babies and are letting us know they don’t approve. It will be this evening when the bull calves have it figured out. There will be much noise and little sleep for bovines or humans tonight.
