We use a feeder that runs the length of the hay barn. Here are the specifics:
- Concrete bottom.
- Steel feed panels in front.
- Back support of 2”x 6” boards that can be removed.
- Railroad ties with steel brackets to hold boards in place.
Small square bales are fed or 2” x 6” boards can be removed, and big bales put on the concrete next to the feed panels. For weanling stock, we usually feed alfalfa in small square bales over most of the feed space. We remove a section of 2” x 6” boards and place a big bale of grass hay to be eaten free choice throughout the day.
