We are finally able to get to some of the fields to work the soil and apply fertilizer. The first piece will have alfalfa with a cover crop of barley. We still have to be careful to avoid wet spots, especially those clay knobs.
The fertilizer is delivered in ton tote bags by semi to our ranch. To determine the mix of ingredients, we take soil samples and have them analyzed. We also take into account what current crop is in the field as well as the newest crop we will plant. More to the process than one would think.
